Birding Guide Services - For The Birders

Birding Guide Services

Jennie MacFarland in Hunt Canyon
Jennie in Hunt Canyon

Hello! I’m Jennie MacFarland and I do offer my services as a birding guide for hire in Southeast Arizona. I am mostly based in Tucson, AZ but am sometimes in Rio Rico, AZ so am very familiar with all the birding sites and birds of Southeast Arizona.

As a full time employee of Tucson Audubon my time is quite limited. I love my job at this non-profit and love my work there as a Bird Conservation Biologist that sometimes it becomes more than a full-time job. At this time I also have a part-time job which further restricts my time. However, I do try to make myself as available as I can manage – please see my calendar to see when I am available and when I am not available. If a date you are interested in doesn’t have anything listed on the calendar please contact me to find out if I am available.

I do try to mark dates when I am not available and others when I am anticipating being available for a day of birding. If you see a date that is blank that you are interested in booking, please contact me to inquire if I can make myself available that day.

If I am not available when you need a guide, I can earnestly recommend anyone on this list from Richard Fray’s website for his bird guiding business, Fun Birding Tours.

Here is a preview of my rates for 1-2 people in Southeast Arizona. To see rates for larger groups and for more detailed information please click here

Information About Jennie

I am a Conservation Biologist on staff for the Tucson Audubon Society. I love birding and showing the beauty of Southeast Arizona and it’s amazing birds. I am a very even keeled and easygoing person who loves being outside birding and enjoying nature in general. As a biologist that is actively involved in many projects in Southeast Arizona I can share all sorts background information about habitats and local efforts to enhance habitats and document bird populations. One of my passions is sharing the love of birding and enjoying nature in general with all sorts of audiences. In my capacity as a staff member of Tucson Audubon I do lots of outreach to both general and birder specific audiences. We share information about creating bird friendly yards and landscaping at venues such as the SAHBA Home & Garden Show and the Pima County Fair where we target non-birders and families. This is one of my favorite things to do as most people are “bird appreciators” and will gladly add some native plants to their yard if it helps hummingbirds or other birds. I also do birder specific workshops on how to use eBird and bird survey methods and also frequently give talks on many birding and habitat subjects in the community. Tucson has been my home for over 20 years and I grew up in Arizona and then earned my Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Conservation and Management at the University of Arizona. I have worked at Tucson Audubon Society for 10 years and spend my days throwing myself in to Tucson Audubon’s mission work of achievement conservation of native birds through sharing a love of birds and birding. I spend quite a lot of my free time enjoying the diverse habitats of Southeast Arizona and birding, often with my lovely boyfriend Richard Fray of Fun Birding Tours.
